The face behind the security counter!
There are endless times when we have entered the shopping malls without giving a second glance to a very important aspect of our security.
Have you ever wondered about the ladies who check our handbags and do a cursory check at the entrance of any mall movie theatres or entertainment venues? They are the face of the new gender diversity in the employment circles of the New Age India!
Every time, I walk into a security check and see their faces I am amazed at their immaculately dressed uniforms, same as the men in those uniforms. There propensity to do their duties as guards in the most sincere way though daresay some do look thoroughly bored. I don’t blame them how many of us who walk past them give them a look back or a warm word of thank you for the tasks that they undertake. It certainly is not a casual affair to take care of our safety and wellbeing.
Interestingly this can be linked to one of the basic needs mentioned by Maslow in his hierarchy pyramid – The need for safety!
Once I had a casual conversation with them. I was pleasantly surprised to know that the young lady was not allowed to wear trousers and shirt at home. But she was the bread winner hence would come to her place of work change into uniform and starts her day. She said sheepishly,” I need to earn and sometimes we need to defy the rules of gender dressing imposed upon us”.
That set me thinking about the face of the New India! Here, At the ground level begins the true sense of gender diversity and equal opportunity for women. This is where the dignity of employment is seen at the highest level.
If you recall your last experience, Have you ever looked them in the eye and thanked them for taking the over the mammoth responsibility of guarding you and the country from any unwanted attacks or danger?
Maybe they deserve a second look!
